Top Photograph in State High School Photography Competition Goes to Peninsula High School Senior

Ian Ostericher, Peninsula High School Senior in Advanced Photography at Peninsula High School received Best in Show in the Washington State High School Photography Competition for his Documentary photograph taken in Beijing, China. Three judges selected his image from among 3200 entries from 59 schools.

Ian was honored in a ceremony in Seattle for winning BEST IN SHOW for the 2009 Washington State High School Photography Competition. He also won FIRST PLACE in Landscape Photography and SIXTH PLACE in Landscape Photography He received a cash prize, a gift certificate good for workshops at Photographic Center Northwest, a camera and printer from Canon Camera, one of the sponsors of the state contest and the honor of seeing his photographs displayed on the web and in photo exhibitions at the Tacoma Art Museum in September and the Seattle Art Museum later in the Fall. In addition, his photographs will be framed and become part of Peninsula High School’s permanent collection of award-winning photographs.

Additional awards went to Peninsula High School students and the school team. Junior, Maegan Jackson, won FOURTH PLACE in Portrait Photography. Ian, and other PHS students received FINALIST and SELECT ribbons designating their work as among the top 7-26 places in their categories.

As a team, PHS placed 7th in the state. The students won this recognition in a field of over 3, 200 entries from fifty-nine schools from around the state. The contest is sponsored by Kenmore Camera, Museum Quality Framing, Canon Camera and Jones Soda.
