High
School students who have not yet passed the Math WASL are
required to take it again on April 15th and 16th in order to
earn a high school diploma.
You may have been hearing in the news recently that the
legislature made some changes in the math WASL. It is important
that you understand the recent changes will not be in effect
until 2014. Students in the classes of 2008-2013 still have a
WASL math requirement in place.
Any student in grades 10, 11 or 12 who has not yet passed the
Math WASL must take the test next week on April 15 and 16.
Students need to arrive at the regular start time and report to
their assigned classroom. State law requires students who have
not yet met standard in math to take the Math WASL once yearly
in order to receive their high school diploma. If students are
absent on the 15th or 16th, the next opportunity to take the
Math WASL will be August 12. In addition to this requirement,
these students need to be earning a math credit yearly. More
details regarding the graduation requirement are available on
the Peninsula School District Website (www.peninsula.wednet.edu).
Please help us ensure that your child participates in the Math
WASL next week if he/she has not yet passed that section.
Sophomores will also participate in the Science Assessment that
takes place on the 17th and 18th. Juniors and seniors may retake
the Science assessment at that time; however, it is not a
graduation requirement. |
