As a tool to teach citizenship and positive values, the
Freshman Academy teachers at Peninsula High School have
developed the RACER curriculum. RACER stands for Respect,
Attitude, Courage, Excellence and Responsibility. Students
participated in introductory activities on each trait, and
teachers integrate the ideas into the curriculum of each academy
class.
As the year progresses, academy teachers take note of
students that demonstrate each of these positive traits. Along
those lines, each teacher names a RACER Student of the Month
each month. This honor is awarded a student that positively
demonstrates one or more of the traits on a regular basis.
